Hosts With the Most—New Program Hosts Bring Viewers Wealth of Insight from God’s Word
Brace yourself. Christian television as we know it is about to experience tectonic shift. And as a Hope Channel viewer, you’ll get to be the first to experience it.
Welcome to the new era in Christian TV.
“Never have so many knowledgeable, Biblically-grounded, humble-yet-enthusiastic program hosts been assembled on one network—and made so accessible to their viewers,” says Hope Channel president Brad Thorp.
Starting with two hours each night, Monday through Thursday, and expanding to three hours nightly in February, Hope Channel will offer the world the best in Bible study and insights for healthy, faithful living—and make every host and guest expert available to you!
“No other block of programming on television will offer such deep, beneficial, relevant insights on life. Nowhere else can viewers have such unfettered access to the hosts and guests, or get such Biblically accurate answers to their most perplexing questions during a live program,” adds Thorp. “And it’s not going to be only during the program. Our hosts will interact throughout the week through each program’s website, blog, Facebook page, and Twitter account.”
“Each host, a deeply-committed Christian with a passion for communicating the Savior’s love and deepest truths, have been preparing for months to bring you lively, informative understanding of the Bible and how it applies directly to your daily life,” says Kandus Thorp, Hope Channel vice president for programming. “You’ll understand the issues of the day from a Biblical perspective. You’ll learn to relate to our Creator and Redeemer in exciting new ways that will bring new joy and purpose to your daily life. And these will be programs you’ll want to share with friends.”
Unlike other programs on television, viewers can call, text, e-mail, or post questions for the hosts and their guest experts. All the new programs will be available around the world on Hope Channel, Hope Channel International, Hope Channel Europe, and live to Hope Channel India. Take this moment to get acquainted with the hosts of these dynamic new programs, and discover what you will experience each evening.
8-9 p.m. (ET) Mon. –Thurs. Let’s Pray!
You’ll never have to pray alone! Get deep spiritual insights into the art and science of prayer as co-hosts Kandus Thorp and Pastor David Franklin lead this interactive global community of prayer. Viewers can use traditional and social media during the program to request prayer and throughout the week to connect with people who ask for prayer.
Thorp and Franklin will deal with everyday, real-life issues—from personal finance and health concerns, to relationships and parenting. Viewers will have their requests prayed for during the live program. Let’s Pray will also feature inspirational stories of healing, miracles, and the ministry prayer in unusual situations.
“Viewers will become empowered to pray and be transformed by their prayer experience,” says Franklin. “Spiritual growth happens in community and this interactive global community to strengthen the faith of those who are already strong; and lift those who may be on the verge of giving up,” says Franklin.
“Prayer is the most universally accepted spiritual practice,” adds Franklin. “As such, it has the greatest possibility to make a major impact on many lives. We will help people open their heart to Jesus and help them build that relationship to last throughout eternity.”
Franklin, an associate pastor at the Berea Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland, and his wife Cynthia, a therapist, enjoy outdoors pursuits, working with young adults, multicultural ministry, and eating Belgian waffles.
Hope Channel viewers are well-acquainted with Kandus Thorp as a program host. However, few people realize that she is a pioneer in using satellite television for evangelism. She has co-led global initiatives resulting in more than 250 satellite TV evangelistic events. She designs sets, coordinates program production events around the world, hosts the long-running My Story, My Song <s>and World of Hope</s> programs, and is an accomplished musician. She has been married to Pastor Brad Thorp for nearly 30 years and homeschooled their three grown sons.
9-10 p.m. (ET) Mondays: storyLine: The Bible Way
“I love a good story and think the Bible has the best stories,” says Chantal Klingbeil, host of storyLine.
“Each week we will step into the world of another Bible character battling with real-life problems. These were real people who interacted with the living God who offers real solutions that we too can use,” says Klingbeil.
“We’ll start with a Bible story and explore it with experts on history, archeology, and other relevant disciplines to develop a unique hands-on feel for the story. We’ll get out of the studio and visit museums, a blacksmith, a tanner, a baker…whatever is relevant to make stories more vivid and draw out the key principles to apply it to our lives,” she explains.
“People will be motivated to read the Bible and see that it is relevant and personal for them. They’ll say, ‘Wow, that’s in the Bible? Let me check it out for myself,’ and then see that God speaks to them through it,” says Klingbeil.
Klingbeil is a writer and professor with a master’s degree in linguistics. She and her husband Gerald have served as academics and missionaries in numerous countries and cultures. He is an associate editor for Adventist World and Adventist Review magazines and they homeschool their three daughters.
9-10 p.m. (ET) Tuesdays: Cross Connection www.HopeTV.org/CrossConnection
Pastor Oleg Kostyuk is familiar to viewers as a panelist on Hope Sabbath School. Kostyuk and his guests lead a fresh, in-depth study and interactive conversation on the life of Christ using multimedia connections during and after each program.
“For many, theological material seems like dry academic information. However, Cross Connection breaks that notion so that theological history, archeology, culture, and even ancient language becomes surprisingly engaging,” says Kostyuk. “And we will have guests with real stories about how a true encounter with Jesus has changed their lives.”
“By knowing more about Jesus and His teachings we will know ourselves, and Scripture will come alive in our lives. We will see vividly the validity of His message, and see how the Bible interprets itself,” Kostyuk explains. “Jesus connected with us on the cross. It is our time to connect with Him and be amazed by His earthly life.”
Kostyuk graduated from Newbold College and the University of Wales in England with masters in Theology, Biblical Studies, and recently served as a teaching pastor at Forest Lake Church, Apopka, Florida. He is married to Julia, a registered nurse, with whom he enjoys scuba diving and hiking.
9-10 p.m. (ET) Wednesdays: Battle for Beginnings
Using detailed expository study, Pastor Brad Thorp takes on the creation/evolution debate, explains the origin of sin, and shows how God offers everyone a personal new beginning.
Viewers can look forward to understanding at a deeper level the battle between good and evil, humanity’s free will and its implications, death, worship, the reliability of Scripture, and much more all in light of today’s global events.
Thorp is a long-time leader in Adventist television. He helped establish the NET format of satellite evangelism and is an evangelist at heart. His warm and welcoming personality will engage viewers as they examine the Bible as the source of all beginnings—historically, geologically, scientifically, and personally. Thorp is married to Kandus, a vice president for Hope Channel and co-host of Let’s Pray. The Thorps have raised three college-aged sons and enjoy time away together in their native Canada.
9-10 p.m. (ET) Thursdays: Disclosure: The Future Declassified www.HopeTV.org/Disclosure
Boonstra’s back…and Hope Channel’s got him!
Pastor Shawn Boonstra returns to weekly television with an interactive program on Bible prophecy. He’ll answer some of the most intriguing questions about the end of time while debunking myths and unwrapping prophetic mysteries.
“Disclosure will equip the audience with the tools they need to understand Bible prophecies for themselves,” says Boonstra. “They’ll find a new appreciation for the times in which we live, a deeper relationship with Jesus, and get more from their personal Bible studies than ever before.”
“People have a sense that it’s ‘no longer business as usual’ on planet earth,” says Boonstra. “Things are changing. It’s not the world our grandparents, our parents, or even we grew up in. People are trying to make sense of the world we face. Even with the proliferation of programs on last-day events on other networks, none give viewers tools to dig into their Bible to learn and understand for themselves. We will,” Boonstra explains.
Boonstra is well known for his 12 years with It Is Written in Canada and the US. He has authored more than 15 books and conducted numerous evangelistic campaigns. He, his wife Jean, and their two daughters recently moved to Maryland where Shawn serves as an Associate Ministerial Director for the North American Division of the Adventist Church.
Coming in February!
7-8 p.m. (ET) Mon-Thurs. Health and Lifestyle
From pre-natal to end-of-life care, the principles God prescribes are scientifically proven to add years to your life, and life to your years! Dr. Nerida Titchiner-McKibben, a dynamic medical doctor and health educator, hosts this nightly presentation of Christian lifestyle principles.
Dr. Nerida is an MD from New Zealand with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology and extra training in lifestyle and integrative medicine. She and her guests will give advice on how to live a more healthful life from every aspect of medicine—cardio, vascular, respiratory, bones and joints, organs, nervous system, mental health, oral health, exercise, diet, men's/women's/children's health, and anything in between. Biblical principles will be foundational and a whole-food, plant-based diet will be presented as the most ideal.
“This program will cover physical, emotional, mental health from prenatal to the grave,” says Dr. Nerida. “I want people to make good choices each day and equip them to be healthy and whole. Their questions and testimonies, along with the contributions of our guest experts, will drive this program.”
“Health and Wellness will become the place that people can go to for Biblically-based, best-practices answers to their questions on health,” she adds. “We’ll give people hope and enable them to live their dreams of a long and healthy life filled with good.”
