Truth Through Personality
Jan 05, 2012 19:14
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”[i]
“Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life…’”[ii]
What incredible statements! God became human! Jesus is Truth! Jesus was Truth through personality!
God has revealed Truth through many significant means: nature, the promptings of the Holy Spirit, providential guidance, godly counsel, and through the written Word—the Bible.
But the supreme way that God revealed Truth was through personality! He humbled Himself and became a human being. Incredible condescension! Truth was so important for humans that God Himself became a human to show us the Truth.
A live, heart thumping, breathing, eating, walking, talking, laughing, crying, thinking, human being can personify and define truth in a far superior way than can mere theological statements (however good and important those theological statements are!). This is where Hope Channel has the advantage in proclaiming truth. People see it. They hear it. They evaluate it for themselves. As the adage says, “A picture is worth a thousand words!”
One of the big reasons we will begin broadcasting twelve hours of live programming each week starting January 9 is that we want more live “truth through personality” programming. We want viewers to see real people relating to the issues of the day—answering questions and applying Scripture to today’s situations. Different topics. Different speakers. Different age categories. (Learn more about these programs and their hosts beginning on page 4.) Truth comes through personality! We want Hope Channel to be a “window for the world” to teach the wonderful truth God has given His church—by doing it through personality.
Please pray for Hope Channel’s program hosts and that each new program will attract much larger audiences. Why? None of us want to exalt ourselves. We want to exalt only Jesus. Hope Channel does not exist to magnify personalities or build empires. We want only to be the “window” by which people see Jesus. Truth through personality makes an impact.
For each one of us the challenge of being “truth through personality” is an invitation of Jesus. “Go you…”[iii] Jesus said. In Isaiah God says: “you are my witnesses.” [iv] By being authentic genuine disciples of Jesus, Jesus lives and works through our senses and our personalities so that others see Jesus is us. What a privilege and awesome responsibility—to represent THE Truth through our personality.
And what is the result? As Ellen White put it: "The strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian." [v]
